HOW TRAUMA THERAPY WORKS

I understand that when you’ve experienced trauma, it may be difficult to trust people—including your therapist! I believe that trust is earned, not freely given, and I’m here to walk with you at your pace.

We’ll start by creating a treatment plan together that maps out your goals for therapy. Unlike other therapists who may come in with a pre-set plan, I believe your input is crucial in helping you get the most out of our work together. And before actually processing any trauma, we’ll establish a foundation of coping skills you can lean on outside of our sessions. 

From there, we’ll decide which therapy methods will be best for you. Most often, I use Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), an approach that is specifically designed to help free you from intrusive memories, nightmares, and other impacts of trauma. 

In anything that we do together, I will take the time to walk you through each step of the process so you know exactly what you are going to take on and what you can expect to get out of it.
